Inspection in Mobile Phone Industry

To sell mobile phone in a certain country, manufactures must get corresponding quality certification that is approved by local government. In most countries and areas, manufactures can either apply for certification from local certified institution or provide with CE (European Conformity) certification. To get quality certification, the mobile phone usually need to pass a serial of performance tests performed by authorized labs and make sure that the product has met certain quality and safety standard.

Critical defects

The defects that pose a threat to users’ personal safety & property, for example, battery liquid leakage.

Major defects

The defects that prevent users from using the phone normally or make the phone fail to meet designing requirement or national standard. For example, the phone can not power on normally, comes with broken screen, or is packed without important accessories.

Minor defects

The defects in the phone body that lead to lower users satisfaction. For example, the phone is packed without manual, protective bag, etc., which won’t affect the normal use of the phone.

Inspection of Mobile Phone Functions

The inspection will cover all functions of the final mobile phone, including:

Charging

The phone won’t charge, display wrong battery percentage, etc.

Powering on and off

The phone automatically power off, etc.

Display

It shows black screen, screen blurs, etc.

Sound & Ringing

The phone won’t ring or vibrate, etc.

Software Errors

It is installed with the wrong OS version; system crashes; can’t find contact, message or other apps, etc.

Connectivity

the phone can’t make call or show no signal, etc.

Button Malfuctions

The home button, volume button or other doesn’t function.

Structure Tests

Orientation drop

height 80cm, 6 surfaces, 4 corners, loop 2 times

Rolling drop

height 50com, loop 250 times

Twist test

0.98 Newton, overall loop 1000 times

Steel ball impact

energy 0.25, 4 corners + centre point, 1 time

Microdrop test

height 10 cm, front and back surfaces (overall loop 3000 times), other surfaces (1000 times)

Soft-pressure test

25 KGF, press 2000 times (10-20 times/per minute) on the sample, 1000 times on LCD.

Electricity test

Speaker and receiver lifetime test

maximum volume when the phone is placed in 55+- 2°C box, lasting 96hrs. Single test of white/dust noise, 96 hrs

Motor lifetime test

20000 times (0.5s stop/0.5s vibrate)

ESD test

air dischage 5KV -10KV/touch dischage 4KV-8KV
