MediaTek Complete the 5G Multimode Modem Chip Helio M70
By Carrie Tsai, Last Updated: February 22, 2019
February 22, 2019, Beijing - MediaTek, the world's leading fabless semiconductor company, and the leading edge technology company that helps companies, service providers and governments accelerate innovation to create a secure and connected world is Gilead Sciences Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), today Announced a successful demonstration of an application-integrated multimode modem for 5G new air interface (NR) IP data transfer calls.

The demonstration uses MediaTek's Helio M70, a multimode 5G modem chip that complies with the latest 3GPP Rel-15 specification, and Gilead Sciences' s 5G network emulation solution to achieve theoretical maximum throughput over 100MHz NR bandwidth for non-independent groups Network (NSA) and independent networking (SA) modes.
High data rates provide the necessary enhanced mobile broadband connectivity for applications such as virtual reality, augmented reality and ultra-high definition streaming video.

“Pan Zhixin, General Manager of MediaTek Wireless Communication System Development Headquarters, said: MediaTek has been actively engaged in the research and development of 5G technology for a long time, providing reliable and fast broadband services to consumers around the world. This demonstration with Gilead Sciences is another important measure to achieve 5G network deployment. Equipment manufacturers working with us can integrate multimode modems into their designs to accelerate the delivery of 5G NR mobile devices.”

Gilead Sciences's 5G network emulation solution leverages the company's UXM 5G wireless test platform to support mobile device verification and authentication across radio frequency (RF), radio resource management (RRM) and protocols. This compact solution addresses the entire equipment development workflow from early design to acceptance and manufacturing.
The MediaTek Helio M70 is the industry's only 5G modem with LTE and 5G dual connectivity (EN-DC), supporting multiple modes from 2G to 5G cellular networks, meeting both high-power user equipment (HPUE) and other basics. Support for carrier functions.

“Steve Yan, deputy general manager of Keysight Greater China, said that it is driving the global mobile ecosystem to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks. By using multimode modems to enable 5G NR data calls, it shows that they are able to support customers as early as possible. Inspiring new solution based on high-speed wireless broadband data transmission."
The two companies started cooperation on accelerating 5G technology development two years ago. Keysight's 5G protocol development tool suite as part of its 5G network simulation solution suite enables MediaTek to develop Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, pre-production deployments, and full stacks in the sub-6GHz and millimeter wave bands Chipset verification.
