Tip 1: Exposure

No matter taking photos with any kind of device, you should control the brightness of the photo by yourself. As for smartphone, its built-in photometric system is mainly global photomentry. So when you run the camera on your phone, the programme will utilize global photomentry to derive an exposure value.

In most case you can use global photomentry to take photos, exclude some special case where it may lead to overexposure. So it is important to control exposure in order to take nice photos.

Actually, there is not so much skill in controlling exposure. Here, we take the completely automatic photo program of smartphone as an example. Basically, what we should do is to control the “’little sun” to change the brightness. The photo program will make sure the exposure is precise after spot-metering. However, if you want a more dramatic picture, you can just drug down the “little sun”

Tip 2: Use your grid

Making the most of the grid can give you better composition of picture. Take Huawei for example, open the camera and enter the shooting interface. And then swipe from right to leaf, tap Assistive grid, and you will find there are some choices such as Grid, Phi grid, Fibonacci spiral of left and right.

Basically we will use the Grid to present a nice composition. The place where the horizontal line and the vertical line meet is actually the place where the main body is placed.

By using grid, you will not end up putting everything in the middle of the interface, which is really a bad taste. It can also prevent confusing the primary with secondary and not well organized photos to a large extent.

Tip 3:  Special aspect ratio

We should not be limited by the original photo scale limitation, rather, we can take photo with square 1:1 or film 16:9. In that way , your photos will not end up with stiff condition. If you are going to take photo of scenery, the composition is relatively simple, once master the skill of grid and special aspect ratio, your picture will look nice and comfortable.

Tip 4:  Use HDR

Almost every smartphone has HDR (High-Dynamic Range). Simply put, it will make details clear in whether highlight or shadow part. Meanwhile, it can keep bright part from overexposing.

However, you should bear in mind that because of the limitation of phone, HDR can solely be regarded as makeshift of saving pictures and you can not expect too highly of it. If you want to restore dark shadows to a larger extent, you’d better rely on Photoshop.

Tip 5:  Photoing angle

You can not taking a satisfying picture without considering photoing angle. Needless to say, it should be adjusted in different situation.

Firstly, when taking pictures of scenery, it will be too monotonous to let the scenery take up all of your photo. We ought to leave a blank space to serve as a foil to the beauty of the sight. We use horizontal photography most in shooting landscapes.

Secondly, before pressing the shutter, try to look from many angles such as head-up, bottom-view, and bottom-up in order to select the most beautiful and comfortable one and choose the best one and carefully observe the distance between objects.

Thirdly, when taking photos of people, especially girls, we can lower the device (down to the  feet) and tilt it upwards to make her look taller and more beautiful.

Tip 6: Use web glow

Nowadays, many smartphone camera has built-in retouching function, which is quite practical when taking photos of people or taking selfies. It can automatically recognize wrinkles, acne, eye bags on the face and turn it into a perfect version. The algorithm inside it is so strong that the before and after will look like two totally different people.
